Spiritual Cleansing

Removing Negativity from your life!


Spiritual cleansing, refers to practices aimed at purifying and revitalizing one's mind, body, and spirit. It's often associated with practices like meditation, visualization, and engaging with nature to release negativity and promote well-being. Religious traditions also have their own forms of spiritual cleansing, often involving rituals.


General Principles:


  • Releasing Negativity: The core idea is to let go of negative emotions, thoughts, and experiences that weigh you down


  • Connecting with Inner Self: Spiritual cleansing can involve introspection and mindfulness practices to understand your thoughts and feelings.


  • Promoting Positivity: The goal is to fill yourself with positive energy, peace, and clarity.


1. What to do in your home:


  • Declutter and Clean: A clean and organized home can help create a more positive atmosphere, while a messy and unorganized home can cause feelings of stress and stagnation.   So, it is a good idea to declutter and clean your home on a regular basis.


  • Let in Light and Fresh Air: Open windows to allow fresh air to circulate, and open curtains or blinds to let in natural light.


  • Smudge or use Incense: Traditionally, smudging with white sage, incense, or Palo Santo is used to purify and cleanse spaces.  When smudging yourself waft the smoke over your body from head to toe, state a positive intention while doing this (e.g., “I release all that no longer serves me”) When smudging your home make sure to open windows before lighting the sage or incense to allow the negative energy to flow out the window. Focus on your intention to clear negative energy as you move the smoke through your home or around yourself.  Make sure you get smoke around the doorways, corners and windows, while visualizing white light pushing out darkness.


  • Use Sound: Playing music, singing, or using a bell or singing bowl can help to break up stagnant or negative energy.  Try clapping loud in the corners of your home.


  • Use Crystals: Certain crystals, like Black Tourmaline, Amethyst, Obsidian, or Selenite, are believed to protect against and absorb negative energy. You can place them around your home or wear them as jewelry, keeping them within your aura.  Other crystals you should consider are calming crystals such as lepidolite or blue lace agate.


  • Sea Salt Cleansing: Salt is thought to absorb negative energy. Pouring salt in a small dish and placing them in the corners of rooms will help clear negative energy.  (change weekly) To make this more powerful add some protection crystals or create stone grids.  To clean surfaces, you can create a salt solution to wash the surfaces in your home.  Clean surfaces can help cleanse your space.  After cleansing with sage and salt some also pour a line of sea salt across the threshold of your doors and on your windows to prevent the negativity from returning.  Another item to consider is getting a salt lamp. When on, the heat of the bulb activates the salt to help purify the air.


  • Decor: Incorporating plants, decorating with vibrant colors like yellow, and choosing art and decor that resonate with you can contribute to a positive energy flow. Another thing you might want to look into is Feng S

  • Repair or Remove Broken Items: Keeping broken items can represent stagnant or negative energy. Repairing or discarding them can help clear the energy in your space.


2. Cleanse Your Personal Energy:


  • Spiritual Baths: When taking a bath add some herbs and/or sea salt to the water.  For instance, you can add salt, rosemary, lavender, or rose petals to a warm bath. There are also pre-packaged spiritual baths you can buy.   Soak and relax for 20+ minutes with the intention of releasing negativity.  After the bath watch the water go down the drain and visualize the negativity going down the drain with the water.


Use Spiritual Tools such as Protective Charms.  Wear or carry items like evil eye jewelry, black obsidian, or tiger’s eye.  Use essential oils such as frankincense, lemongrass or lavender in a diffuser for cleansing and uplifting your energy. Perform ceremonies and rituals according to your spiritual beliefs. An example would be a moon ritual - Release negativity during the full moon with a simple ritual by writing what you wish to release and burning it safely under the moon.     

   

  • Mindfulness and Meditation: Practicing mindfulness and meditation can help you become more aware of your thoughts and feelings, allowing you to let go of negativity. You can also use visualization techniques during meditation, such as imagining yourself surrounded by protective light. Consider joining a meditation group.


  • Positive Affirmations, Prayers and Self-Talk: Challenging negative thoughts and replacing them with positive affirmations. This can help shift your mindset. Some samples are “I am clear of all that drains me.” or “Only love and light remain.”  Keep it positive!  Be kind to yourself and speak to yourself in a positive and encouraging way.


  • Physical Activity: Exercise can help improve your mood, reduce stress, and release negative energy.


  • Journaling: Writing down your thoughts and feelings can provide perspective and self-awareness.  You can also write down the negative things you want to remove from your life.  When you are finished writing burn the paper (in a fire safe container)


  • Develop a Gratitude Practice: Focus on things you're grateful for. This can help shift your attention towards the positive aspects of your life.


  • Seek Support: If you are struggling with persistent negative feelings, consider talking to a trusted friend, family member, Spiritual Advisor or mental health professional.


  • Prioritize Wellness: Ensure you're getting enough sleep, eating a healthy diet, and managing stress. There are also a variety of energy healing techniques that may help, such as reiki. You may need to see a practitioner for this.


  • Engage in Activities You Enjoy: Surrounding yourself with positive people

    and participating in activities that bring you joy can help improve your mood.


  • Ground yourself and Connect with Nature: Spend time outdoors.  Stand barefoot on the grass visualizing roots running from your body to the earth, releasing negativity.   Incorporating plants into your indoor environment can also have a positive impact on your energy.   


  • Forgive Yourself and Others: Letting go of grudges and bitterness can help release negative emotions.


  • Important Note: This is only a partial list of ways to help with spiritual cleansing.  It is a good start though.   Feel free to personalize this any way you want!  Make it yours!


  • While these techniques are widely used for energy cleansing and promoting well-being, the scientific evidence for their effectiveness is limited.
